Iceland platform workshop
July 12, 2017
Immediately after the second full Consortium meeting in Glasgow, partners from Nelson Mandela University, University of the Western Cape and Glasgow Caledonian University flew to Iceland to a two-day workshop, hosted by colleagues from Reykjavik University.
The aim of this session was to confirm our approach to the platform build for Common Good First so our agenda was as follows:
- Define users, user requirements and any benchmark platforms
- Agree tender process (aiming to recruit agency in Cape Town), target agencies, selection process, contract and project plan.
- Re-purpose or build options
- Social media platforms
- Confirm maintenance of social media and platform, as part of the sustainability discussion for CGF
We agreed our ‘elevator pitch’ for the platform –
An intuitive, interactive site to scale across all platforms and devices to allow for upload of multimedia content and two-way conversation, easy to maintain and available on and offline.
We also discussed user ‘personas’, their incentives to participate and drafted an initial list of equipment, both for the three digital storytelling labs and for each South African university. We then reviewed potential digital agencies in Cape Town, to whom we would submit the Request for Proposal (RFP) as well as considering possible lab locations in the Western Cape of South Africa.
The group managed to agree a joint way forward, with a view to regrouping in Cape Town in December 2017 to hear pitches for the platform build and decide on the South African agency we’d work with.
